Trump Sparks a “Wake-Up Call,” Prompting “Well Made Here” to Become More Openly Patriotic
The management of the accreditation organization “Well Made Here”, attuned to the wave of patriotism sweeping the country, has decided to modify the color of its logo to embrace the red of the Canadian flag.
Originally designed in neutral sand tones to blend seamlessly with all types of packaging and product labels, the well-known bilingual round logo—featuring half a house and half a maple leaf—will now be available in red and black, with the option to choose either French or English as the primary language displayed.
“Unintentionally, the American president has triggered a true ‘wake-up call’ among citizens, businesses, and governments here,” says Richard Darveau, President and CEO of “Well Made Here.” He believes that the wave of solidarity toward manufacturers established in Canada will persist well beyond the potential imposition of tariffs.
Since the current logo has been in use for six years by about a hundred manufacturers across more than 700 product lines in hardware and construction materials—collectively covering nearly 13,000 SKUs—companies will be allowed to use up their existing packaging before transitioning to the new version.
Why Choose a “Well Made Here” Accredited Product?
- To make informed purchasing decisions
- To trust in locally made products respecting construction norms
- To support our regions and protect manufacturing jobs
Well Made Here / Bien fait ici is a federally chartered nonprofit organization co-founded in October 2018 by several banners and professional associations. Its mission is to encourage the purchase of quality construction materials and hardware items made in Canada that comply with the country’s building codes and standards.
The organization applies international rules of origin, requiring that at least 51% of direct manufacturing costs (materials and labor for production, assembly, and packaging) be incurred in Canada.
Any company manufacturing quality construction materials or other Canada-made residential market products in a Canadian facility may submit them for accreditation.
Like Energy Star, FSC, CSA, and other certifications, program oversight is ensured by the public, product users, and industry peers. If there is any suspicion of inaccurate or misleading information provided by a manufacturer, concerns can be reported anonymously by calling 1-833-434-4373.
