MAPEI Canada joins the program
Founded in Italy 85 years ago and active in Quebec for quite a long time now from its facilities in Laval, MAPEI asserts that it remains focused on the future. The figures prove the company is a world-leading manufacturer of adhesives and chemicals for the construction industry. It is with this perspective that MAPEI Canada has now decided to become part of the growing family of “Well Made Here” program participants.
It was in 1937 that Rodolfo Squinzi founded his building materials company in the suburbs of Milan with seven employees and the support of his wife, Elsa.
Today, MAPEI, an acronym for Materiali Ausiliari Per l’Edilizia e l’Industria, boasts three generations of entrepreneurs, commercial activities in 57 countries, more than 20 product lines to meet all construction needs, 84 production plants, sales revenues of 2.8 billion euros and nearly 11,000 employees.
MAPEI products are designed to provide system solutions, ranging from underlayments and waterproofing products to high-performance exterior finishing and aesthetic coatings. Additionally, its products are formulated using materials that lessen environmental impact and are designed for easy and effective application.
“We are treating this milestone more like a starting line. We are ready to take on new challenges, knowing that we can count on a high-level team, says Veronica Squinzi, co-president. MAPEI is a company with its heart in Italy and its eyes on the world.
Since our grandfather took that first historic step by building the athletics tracks for the Montreal Olympics, we have never stopped investing in new markets. We recently acquired the French company Resipoly and we are in the process of building five new factories everywhere from the United States to China. »
Marco Squinzi, also co-CEO, adds: “Our deep commitment to innovation and research remains a major element of the strategy of the entire Group. We are a company that manufactures chemicals for the construction industry. The goal of our 32 research laboratories is to develop cutting-edge products to make construction increasingly sustainable with a focus on durability and quality. We believe that extending the life cycle of existing buildings is the best way to consume fewer resources and produce less waste for landfills. We are also committed to increasingly using raw materials with low environmental impact, or secondary raw materials to help drive the circular economy, while simultaneously striving to minimize the use of dangerous in order to protect not only the environment, but also the health of workers. »
The projects and initiatives that have allowed MAPEI to play a leading role in the development of communities around the world are countless: from the modernization of emblematic buildings, such as the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the La Scala Opera House in Milan and the Colosseum in Rome, to the construction of large infrastructure projects such as the Panama Canal, to the company’s participation in large futuristic projects such as the “Arena del Futuro”, an innovative project of ecological transport along the route of the A35 motorway in Brebemi, Italy, based on electric charging by dynamic induction.
